This is awesome, Peter.

Please poke holes, but my thought is that APIs/blockchain can incentivize the unleashing of user-generated products. Playing "outside the walls of websites" allows platforms to properly monetize their digital assets (as NFTs).

Sorare — an NFT fantasy sports company — is my model for this. They have desirable sports IP and enable (and even invest in) users to build games around their NFTs. The end game would be a whole ecosystem of differentiated user-created products — and a differentiated reward set — all underpinned by the most desirable IP on earth.

This idea may not make sense in this comment, but I wrote about it on my page if you're interested. I guess the idea is more Sorare use cases == more Sorare card value. Through NFTs & web interoperability, Sorare is in a position to incentivize the creation of user-generated products around their NFTs.

In the early days of the internet, we thought we were living in the future. Websites and browsers seemed like a revelation, opening up a world of possibilities that would stretch the limits of our imagination. But now, as we stand at the cusp of the next technological revolution, we can see that our initial vision was limited. The internet has grown and evolved, and it is becoming clear that the future of the internet and web3 will not be confined to the borders and limitations of websites and browsers as we know them today.

The concept of web3 represents a paradigm shift in the way we think about and interact with the internet. Whereas the internet was once defined by static pages and rudimentary communication tools, web3 envisions a decentralized network built on blockchain technology, decentralized applications (dApps), and trustless systems. The implications of this shift are profound, and it's not difficult to imagine a world where our interactions with the internet are seamlessly integrated into our daily lives.

Websites and browsers, for all their utility, are ultimately just one manifestation of our digital lives. They've served us well, but their limitations have become increasingly apparent. Websites, by their very nature, are centralized entities with defined borders, often subject to the whims of their creators or the corporations that control them. Browsers, meanwhile, act as gatekeepers, filtering and organizing the content we see and interact with.

The future, however, is far more fluid and adaptable. As we move towards a decentralized internet, we will begin to see the emergence of dApps that are not tied to specific websites or browsers. These applications will exist as self-contained units, operating autonomously and without the need for a central authority.

Imagine a world where your digital identity is not tied to a single platform, but rather exists as a decentralized entity that you control. Instead of logging into Facebook or Google to access your favorite services, your identity would be authenticated through blockchain technology, allowing you to seamlessly interact with a myriad of applications without the need for a central authority to approve or manage your data.

Similarly, the content we consume will no longer be confined to the traditional bounds of websites. With decentralized storage solutions like the InterPlanetary File System (IPFS) and data structures like the Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG), we can begin to imagine a future where information is stored and accessed in a completely decentralized manner. The barriers between content creators and consumers will become increasingly blurred, with no central authority acting as an intermediary or arbiter of truth.

As we transition to this new era of the internet, the role of browsers will also change. Rather than acting as gatekeepers, they will become facilitators, providing us with the tools and interfaces necessary to navigate and interact with the decentralized web. It's likely that we'll see a new generation of browsers built specifically for this purpose, designed to seamlessly integrate with decentralized technologies and provide a more intuitive and immersive experience.

The future of the internet and web3 is not and will not be confined to the borders and limitations of websites and browsers as they exist today. Instead, we are moving towards a more decentralized, interconnected, and fluid digital landscape. The barriers that once defined our online experiences will dissolve, and in their place, we will find a new world of possibilities limited only by our own imagination.
